celebrated our first independence

WHY WOULD WE BE CELEBRATING 72nd INDEPENDENCE DAY INSTEAD OF 71st ON 15TH AUGUST 2018?
Well, this question was very common in our childhood days that why we count the number of years of Independence day celebration one year ahead every time. And I guess it still is a question and a little bit of confusion for some people. Well, if you have this problem and you are searching for its solution everywhere then you are at right place.
So if you go by the logic I mean mathematically we should be celebrating our 71st
independence day because if we count the number of years after we got independence i.e 1947 then its 71 years after that we are getting 2018. So if you are calculating it like this then you are not wrong at all. Because 1948 should be our first year of independence day and so on by going this way we would reach 2018 by 71. Yes, 1948 was our first year of celebration of independence day but we celebrated our first independence day in 1947 itself. Confused right.

We got independent in the midnight of the 14-15th of August and celebrated our first independence day on the next day i.e on 15th August 1947. So that makes 1948 as the 2nd year of celebration of our independence day. So, by going on this way we would get to 2018 by 72 and hence we would be celebrating our 72nd independence day on 15th August 2018.
Hope this helped in getting your confusion clear. Now, you can teach your children about this so they don’t get confused like we all did.
